PLANNING 101

Being a wedding planner by trade, I soon realized there was a serious precedence set about my wedding. Once engaged, friends and family would say things like, “It is going to be the wedding of the year” and “ I can’t wait to see what you do differently”. Whether a bride in the business or not, this was a bit intimidating, but I took a step forward and began putting all of my visions into a reality…of course while trying to maintain my budget.

The biggest piece of advice I can provide to you is to remember why you are planning this wedding and keep an ultimate goal in mind. For us, the goal was to have an experience, not just a party. Here are a few tips for the future brides:

Start with a pin board. This will help you specify your vision and design. Once you make a decision, delete all pins associated so that you don’t second guess yourself!

Find a favorite wedding planning website and stick to it. Many sites have planning trackers, budget tools, and helpful links. My favorite is Wedding Wire.

Create a binder, whether its a special wedding binder or a generic one, this will help to keep all of your contracts and information together.

Create a wedding website and link it on your save the dates. This will help your guests plan and grow the excitement for their big day! Wedding Wire and The Knot offer free resources.

Lastly, remember what the day is all about. People can get carried away during the planning process and focus too much on the party rather than the marriage. I always find that adding special, personal touches to the big day will help you remember the purpose. Whether it is a reading at your ceremony, sharing your love story, or writing your own vows, that is what people will remember.
